Little Mamie (not real name) has been living with her biological father in Pleebo, Maryland County and attends a well-known school and is in the first grade. Her mother lives in Monrovia ‘doing her own thing’. Of late, little Mamie has consistently been physically assaulted by her father until residents of the neighborhood could no longer withstand the anguish this child continues to experience at the hands of her “heartless” father.

The community reported the incident to a community justice advisor (CJA). The CJA conducts monthly rule of law awareness in their community. But due to severity of the situation, the CJA suggested the concerned community women refers the child abuse case to the LNP Women and Children Protection Section.

When they received the complaint, the police immediately got involved but appealed to one of the women to take charge of the little girl until they can institute the appropriate measure in the best interest of little Mamie.

In an interview with battered 8-year old at the residence of a relative where she was being kept for her safety, Mamie mentioned how she was frequently beaten/battered like a common criminal by her father. “At times he will tie my hands and feet to beat on me with anything,” she said.

Police in Maryland confirmed the case and they have filed a petition for a

writ of Arrest at the Magisterial Court, which was granted, and arrest of her father was effected. The father, who name is yet unknown, is an employee of the Cavalla Rubber Company.

Her father works in the human resource department and has posted a bond to appear in court at 10 am on Monday with his legal representative.

Little Mamie has clearly said she doesn’t want to go back to her father. The apparent trauma of the alleged constant beating of the little girl has often caused her to run away each time she sees any man like her father.

concerned women say Mamie needs support as the caretaker who also works with CRC is being threatened by Mamie’s father on the job. The relative caretaker has called on the CJA to get Mamie out of her home.

One of the administrators and teaching staff of the school Mamie attends clearly says if nothing is done to keep her away from her father, she may sooner die in his hands. She referenced an incident in which the father mercilessly beat the child and nearly burst one of her eyes in their presence.
