Liberian President George Manneh Weah, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 dedicated two refurbished public facilities—the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building on Capitol Hill and the D. Twe Sports Pitch in New Kru Town, a press release from the Executive Mansion has said.

Speaking at the Foreign Ministry dedication ceremonies, President Weah commended officials of the Ministry for demonstrating high standards of commitment and patriotism. He expressed delight dedicating the newly renovated Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adding that the project was executed with no cost to the Government of Liberia.

“These are self-help projects initiated by true patriots and nationalists with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs family, especially Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet, putting in time in sourcing the funding used.

The President said Minister Kemayah and team deserve commendation for undertaking the worthy projects.

In a society where people prefer to only take away from the people, President Weah noted, it was good that Minister Kemayah and his Team willingly gave to the people. He called the MOFA gesture “a legacy of the spirit of self-initiative.”

“With excellent skills in sourcing bilateral support and assistance, Ambassador Kemayah reached out and won the support of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who graciously provided funding for the renovation and refurbishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building and the construction of a front parking lot,” the Chief Executive told dignitaries present at the ceremonies.

He said the combined support from the two friendly countries is a demonstration of the productive bilateral relations his government has built over the years.

President Weah announced that the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco directly contracted and executed the renovation and refurbishment of the Sixth Floor, the stairs of all the floors, the C. Cecil Dennis Auditorium, the Foyer, the Facade, the Painting of the Exterior of the building, and the construction of the new Front Parking area of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also disclosed that the Government of Saudi Arabia provided the funding for the renovation and refurbishment of the First, Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Floors, as well as the Basement of the Ministry.

A Liberian-owned company, MDMC, headed by Mr. John Youboty, was the contractor. President Weah thanked the company for a “job excellently done”.

He said the level of excellence put in this project is an advertisement for other Liberian-owned firms to perform well when contracted to do a piece of job for the country.

“That we are dedicating a newly renovated and refurbished building to be turned over to the incoming Government demonstrates our level of patriotism, love for our people, and our support for the smooth continuation in governance,” the Liberian leader said further.

In another development, President Weah on the same day also dedicated the newly refurbished D. Twe High School playing field.

The once baldheaded, muddy field is now modernized with artificial turf, thus elevating it to an appreciable standard. D. Tweh Sports pitch adds to a number of once unkempt playing pitches refurbished with artificial turfs, training facilities and playgrounds by President Weah. Others completed and dedicated include the West Point Pitch, IE Practice Ground at the Fish Market, and the Young Survivor Soccer Pitch in Doe Community and PHP sports park also called the Unification Sports Park.
