Emmanuel Diabolo, a son of Bong County, has attributed the outbreaks and spread of communicable diseases in Liberia to improper waste management system.
Appearing as guest on a local radio station in Gbarnga recently, Mr. Diabolo stated that waste has a long-term environmental consequence, and they contribute greatly to the spread of life-threatening diseases.
As the result of open defecation and poor garbage management, Diabolo added that majority of the communities across the country are vulnerable to the threats of communicable diseases.
According to him, recent studies have shown that the annual spending of most of the communities on treatment of diseases caused by improper waste disposal were far higher than communities that are defecation free.
Diabolo called on citizens of Bong County to adopt best waste management practices, including the construction and maintenance of latrine facilities, and embrace acts that will minimize and prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases in the County.
He then used the medium to appreciate the American government through USAID and partners for the initiation of the County Wide Sanitation Activity that seeks to make Liberia open defecation free.
