Ahead of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) March 31, 2024, deadline to recall the old Liberian banknotes from circulation, marketers and Businesses in Grand Cape Mount County have begun rejecting all banknotes issues before 2021.
Citizens in the county told Our Correspondent that the refusal by business owners to accept their money is posing economic hardship on them and their families.
The citizens are calling on the CBL to constitute a mobile taskforce to travel to the leeward counties to retrieve the old banknotes currently in circulation. Many of those complaining are people who cannot easily afford much for them and their families.
In another development, the citizens of Cape Mount have welcome President Joseph Boakai’s Executive Order 126, which calls for his Assets Recovery from past and present Government Officials.
According to Cape Mountainians, President Boakais’s decision is in the right direction, noting that it would help the government succeed in its fight against corruption in every sectors of the country.
The citizens also lauded the 55th Legislature who Tuesday, March 5, 2024 signed the resolution calling for the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in Liberia.
Grand Cape Mount County is among those counties that experienced many massacres in the Liberians civil unrest in the country.
