Renowned Liberian human rights lawyer Cllr. Tiawon Saye Gongloe is calling for the immediate dismissal of Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman over his handling of allegations involving senior government officials and the country’s ongoing cocaine investigations.
Speaking on local radio recently, Cllr. Gongloe argued that Inspector General Coleman should either resign or be removed from office if he is unwilling to publicly clarify allegations concerning government officials reportedly linked to the drug investigations.
Gongloe said Coleman’s refusal to disclose the identities of the officials he has allegedly referenced raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability in the ongoing investigations.
The lawyer maintained that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai should take administrative action, arguing that the controversy could affect public confidence in both the police and the government’s handling of the narcotics investigations.
Coleman has previously said the investigations remain active and that authorities are pursuing individuals involved in the alleged trafficking networks. Public reporting has also documented allegations and investigations involving police personnel and other individuals in connection with the cocaine cases.
Gongloe further criticized the silence of some senior government officials in response to allegations surrounding the investigations, saying such silence could damage their public reputation.
Meanwhile, Gongloe has criticized what he described as the Boakai administration’s reluctance to accept criticism and its tendency to compare its performance with the previous George Weah administration.
He urged the government to focus on addressing the challenges facing the country rather than offering excuses, recalling that the Boakai administration campaigned on a promise to “rescue” Liberia.
