We will not compromise academic excellence. Those were the words of the President of the William V. S Tubman University in Harper, Maryland County, Liberia. He says the University will do everything possible to get the best students.
The President of William VS Tubman University in Harper, Maryland County Prof. Dr. Olu Q. Menjay made the statement when he spoke at a day-long working meeting. The meeting was held at the University main campus on Friday, February 2, 2024, and brought together students, Staff members, and Faculty members.
Dr. Menjay cautioned people to desist from refusing to recognize what they can do and what they can’t do but should leave room for improvement in their education sojourn.
He urged students to consider three characteristics: Identity – who am I; ‘Internalism’ – who loves me, and Industry – what am I going to do with my life. He added, “If a students can’t recognize their identity, people will mislead them.
He said when he was appointed by the former President of Liberia Dr. George M. Weah the issues of identity came about and lot of people were saying, how can the President appoint a high school principal.
He said TU has four pillows of priorities, which include “Academic Excellence, Student Success, Entrepreneur Enterprise, and Brand Prestige”.
On academic excellence, the TU President asserted, “We will not compromise academy excellence and we will do everything possible to get the best students to provide opportunities for other students…”
According to him, if the Tubman University will be like a purple cow, which he said means they should be extra different from other Universities in Liberia
He encourages female students to focus on their own process on campus that will make them strong enough for better tomorrow.
Dr. Larry C. Hwang, Dean of College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) made special remarks welcoming the University President and the rest of the other Five colleges’ Deans and the student bodies for academic semester two for the 2023/2024.
Dr. Hwang emphasized the importance for students to focus on their lessons as many programs include students club, students service program, academy success among other things.
He pointed out that students shouldn’t limit their focus on imagination, adding that with the new semester they should build their hopes and dreams on positive outcome no matter how hard the situation may be. “Let me say to everyone, focus on new things and dreams big enough to achieve your goals and objectives for which you left your parents’ homes and traveled to the Williams V. S. University for quality education,” Dr. Hwang said.
