The focus person for mental health in Bong County, Mr. Dakamue Kollie, says female drugs addicts are becoming more and more addictive as compared to their male counterparts.
Mr. Kollie told Blaze Daily News (BDN) recently that scores of females in the county are involved into the use of illicit drugs.
He has attributed the high rates at which females are initiated into drugs to poverty and peer pressure, adding, “Those are the triggers of female initiation into illicit drugs”, he says.
Dakermue stated that many girls engage into prostitution because of hardship, and they use drugs to cope with the stress of the activity.
He added that some female drug users were also nitiated by frinends who might have told them that illicit drugs were beneficial.
He noted that in addition to emotional stress and hardship is a brain disease and noted that attempts to quit drug use may cause intense cravings and make the victims feel physically ill.
Dakermue Kollie has urged the Liberian Government to invest more into mental health and strengthen the implementation of the drug law to tackle the menace.
