As the October 10th Election Day draws nearer and political campaigns heats up, Vice President Joseph Boakai has now become an apologist for the failures of the Unity Party led government of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. The Vice President asked his own Lofan citizens to forgive him for the failure of the regime he is serving as second man in command.

On his tour of Lofa County to tell his people to throw their support behind him, Boakai is asking the people of Lofa County to pardon him to for the government’s failure to deliver promises made to them.

Speaking over the weekend in Lofa County during the county political campaign launched, Boakai said, “In 2005, we crisscrossed this great county and reached out to you and our citizens in other counties, asking them to vote for a great women to become the first female president of Liberia and Africa, you believed in me and voted accordingly.”

He then added, “In 2011, I came again and asked for continuity and once again you gave a resounding vote. You complained about many things that ultimately unfortunately did not happen, including your single most critical concern – the road from Gbarnga to Medicornma,” Boakai added.

Vice President Boakai indicated he could have provided a host of plausible excuses today, but Lofans know that is not his nature. “Let me simply and humbly apologize and ask that we continue to believe that the time for it to happen is at hand. God willing it will begin soon,” he said.

“Today, we have come to say to Lofa, the battle is yours! Let not one vote scape you. One vote out of Lofa for any other presidential candidate will mean a less than a 100 percent decision,” he said.

According to him, Lofa is about to make a big history, and Lofans should not let the opportunity slip away from them, noting that doing so will be the greatest misstep ever. He noted that his county produced the best candidate in the ensuing October 10, 2017 Representatives and Presidential elections.

Meanwhile, majority of the party’s legislative caucus members are from the Unity Party with the exception of Steve Zargo of the opposition Liberty Party, who despite his membership of the Liberty Party was also seen in attendance at the VP Boakai’s program in Lofa County.
