Although Montserrado Representative Edwin Snowe is an adept supporter of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who was accused of masterminding his removal from office as Speak, Snowe reflects on the bad and painful memories of Bo Waterside brought to him recently.

“Anyone thinks about the former president, will obviously had a painful thought. But, at the sometime, we cannot allow our past to hunt us. It is painful that our former president has face trial and subsequently serving his sentence, but the fact remains Liberians and Sierra Leoneans are once more together,” he said.

Snowe currently supports the presidency of Vice President Joseph Boakai. He asserted that Mano River Bridge brings “painful thoughts about Liberian President Charles Taylor. Mr. Taylor is serving 50 years in Great Britain following a grueling trial at the War Crimes for Sierra Leone.

Snowe came to the country’s political limelight during Taylor’s administration, and according to him the bridge which today use for peace and welcoming events was once a transit point for wars, refugees, and zone of total unrest.

Speaking last weekend, at Bomi County Farm, outside of the Liberian capital, Snowe added, “It brought tears in my eyes; the Mano River bridge which was once battle ground, a place of wars, refugees and war related issues can today be place of ECOWAS peace initiative, it bring tears to me,” he said.

Representatives Snowe and Jefferson Karmo had gone on the Bo Waterside Bridge, the border town separating Liberia and Sierra Leone to receive their colleagues from the ECOWAS parliament.

At the middle of the bridge stood Liberian delegates, while their Sierra Leonean counterparts beam with smiles and joy jubilantly embraced each other to show oneness and togetherness in the Mano River basin.

But Snowe did not allow the historical event to pass by without reflecting the 14 years of civil crisis that saw the two countries sinking deep into anarchy as war ripped through the two sisterly countries, rushing thousands of their citizens to their early graves.

Meanwhile, local football and kickball teams from the border town of Sierra Leone locked horns with the Bomi County “All Stars” team in commemoration of events to marked the endorsement ceremony of Vice President Joseph Boakai presidential bid.
