‎A humanitarian organization under the banner, “His Safe Haven” has taken custody of a baby who was reportedly abandoned in a bush in Kpayah Town, Jorquelleh District #3, Bong County. The baby was discovered lying on straws and leaves.‎

‎The infant was dressed in a white and blue shorts, and a red T-shirt wearing a pair of socks. He was rescued by a passerby and turned over to the Women and Children Protection Section of the Liberia National Police in Bong County.

The police, in consultation with the local office of the Ministry of Gender, decided to transfer the child to His Safe Haven, an organization that partners with the police to support vulnerable children and disadvantaged mothers. “His Safe Haven” is a dedicated residential village located in Gbarnga, Bong County, Liberia. It primarily serves as a sanctuary for orphaned, neglected, and special-needs children, providing them with family homes, daily therapy, foster mothers, and medical‎

‎Speaking in an interview with our reporter, the commander of the Women and Children Protection Section, Hawa Kromah, said the child’s mother is yet to be identified. She disclosed that the baby appeared to have a physical deformity and is currently receiving medical treatment while police continue their investigations.

‎Commander Kromah warned that abandoning a child because of disabilities or medical conditions is against the law and urged parents facing such challenges to seek help from relevant authorities.

‎‎She has meanwhile called on the public to assist investigators with information that could help identify and arrest the child’s mother.

The Ministry of Gender says it is working closely with the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Women, Children and Social Protection of Liberian police to determine the best course of action to address the child’s condition.

Madam Musu Mulbah, County Gender Coordinator

The Ministry says actions may include the possibility of facilitating a legal adoption process for the child.
