Orphans at the Rainbow Orphanage in Gbarnga are starving because of acute food shortage at the facility. The orphanage caters to over 50 children.
The Proprietress of the orphanage, Madam Feeeta Naimeh told reporters that she is unable to fend for the kids due to her poor health condition.
“I am old, and my health condition is very poor “, she complained about her health condition.
Madam Niamen, who is believed to be in her 60s, walks with the help of a cane.
As a result of her mobility difficulty and health issue, she hugely depends on donations to run the facility but not many donors are going to their aid.
She said Christian Aid was supplying the orphanage with food and non-food items, but it has stopped its support to the facility.
Currently, orphans at the center are surviving on cassava and other bush food from a backyard garden which was established years back by Madam Feeeta Naimeh.
She is worried that the kids would become malnourished, if they do not eat other nutritional food.
In the wake of the food crisis, classroom teachers at the orphanage have threatened to file a lawsuit against the proprietress for three months areas owed them.
“The teachers said they will carry me to court, but other people talked to them to give me time to find their money”, she notes.
The aging Rainbow Orphanage Proprietress is pleading with NGOs, humanitarians, and the county authorities to swiftly intervene.
Madam Naimeh said her quest is to educate the orphans and introduce Christ to them.
