Tension continues to heighten in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County between the office of Grand Gedeh Superintendent Peter Solo and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). Mr. Solo was accused of threatening and intimidating citizens of the County not to support the premier Liberian opposition political party, but the Superintendent is rather accusing Sen. George Weah of ingratitude.
The CDC’s Vice Chair for Mobilization, Mulbah Morlu recently expressed outrage that chiefs, elders and other local government employees in Grand Gedeh are being threatened with dismissal or removal from office if they chose to support the CDC.
“We have heard that there is a constricted efforts on the part of Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County to use his leverage as chief administrator of the County to intimidate chiefs, to intimidate elders, to intimidate different leaders in the various constituencies in Grand Gedeh…,” Mr. Morlu alleged.
Addressing citizens of the County on a local “Smile FM” radio station Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in Zwedru, Superintendent Peter Solo did not only accused the CDC standard bearer of being ungrateful to the people of Grand Gedeh, but also confirmed that Grand Gedeans will throw their support behind the Unity Party front man, Vice President Joseph Nyemah Boakai, comes October polls this year.
Solo said it is time for Grand Gedeans to divert their minds to pledge their loyalty to V.P Boakai’s presidential bid, rather than CDC’s George Weah, whom he referred to as “ungrateful and has no political relevance”.
He also slammed CDC’s Mobilization chief Mulbah Morlu who accused him recently, describing him as “extremely irresponsible…” Mr. Solo said his statement against CDC’s Morlu would not be retracted because thoughts are not retractable.
“On two occasions in 2005 and 2011,” Mr. Solo asserts, “overwhelmingly voted, cast their ballots in favor of George Weah. Now you tell me, does it appear that he appreciated it? No.”
He said Sen. Weah went to Zwedru in 2013 but failed to call a meeting or forum to thank Grand Gedeans for their support, adding that after Grand Gedeans massive support Weah 2005 and 2011 elections, he has not come in the county to appreciate the people of the county for their gesture.
The Grand Gedeh Superintendent said that the year 2017 elections is time for his kinsmen to vote Joseph Nyemah Boakai, who he believes will bring more investments in Liberia when elected to impact the citizens.
The Superintendent indicated that it is time for Grand Gedeans to reciprocate the kind will of Lofaians. He said their son, Veep Boakai served Grand Gedeans when he served as Agriculture Minister during the Samuel Doe regime.
But reacting sharply to Superintendent Solo’s statements against the political leader of the CDC and its Co-chairman, the representative aspirant on the ticket of CDC in Tchien Electoral District #1 of Grand Gedeh County, Errol Madison Wion said he was disappointed by the assertions made by Superintendent Solo.
Mr. Gwion said the CDC has been the most peaceful political party in the Republic of Liberia, especially when it was cheated twice during the past general and presidential elections, which the political leader now Montserrado County Senator George Manneh Weah forwent for peace.
Mr. Gwion said that the Superintendent’s utterances on national and local media against his political leader, Weah, “were unfortunate”. He reminded Mr. Solo that Sen. Weah came to Grand Gedeh to give Peter Solo’s late father, Col. Joseph Solo, a befitting burial in 2013.
He spoke during a press conference organized at the headquarters of CDC in Zwedru on June 14, 2017.
The Tchien District representative aspirant used the medium to say that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf made a wrong appointment with Peter L. Solo as Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County.
He noted that Peter Solo should be discussing issues that affect the livelihood of the people of Grand Gedeh and the development agenda of his administration, rather than throwing insults at people of good character worldwide.
