Beekeeping, a rather unfamiliar apiculture investment venture in Liberia, seems to be getting attention lately. Some Liberians are now calling for more investment into beekeeping. Beekeeping is the maintenance of bee colonies, commonly in man-made beehives.
The executives of the “Beekeepers Association of Liberia” (BAL) are appealing to the national government through the Ministry of Agriculture to support and prioritize working with Beekeepers across the Country.
Speaking at a three-day Beekeeping conference in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, over the weekend, the Chairman of Beekeepers in the County, Momo Ash, called on the national Government and other international organizations to invest more into beekeeping.
The conference brought together Beekeepers from across the Country to encourage them to improve into beekeeping if they must be self-reliance.
The theme for this year beekeeping conference is “Beekeeping-creating Opportunities in Conservation and Sustainable Livelihood. “
Mr. Ash believes the government can build the capacity of beekeepers in the Country, adding, “They will produce more honey for commercial purposes in and out of Liberia.”
