A Liberian group, the Makpoma Decedent Development Association (MADA) has broken grounds for the construction of a 12-bedroom health center in in Kiadii Clan in the Garwula District, Grand Cape Mount County.
The ceremony took place on Sunday, March 3, 2024. The Project is a self-initiative. The contact persons of the group, Mr. Mohammed Nyie and Mr. Mohammed Turay disclosed that it is MADA’s contribution to the clan.
The health center is expected to be constructed on a 5-acre piece of land donated by the Kiadii Clan in Garwula District Grand Cape Mount County.
Both Nyie and Turay said MADA will also build a nurse’s quarter for nurses that will be working at the health center.
They further indicated that their dream is to construct nursing school and a grade school on the same parcel of land to alleviate the burden of their brothers and sisters’ education.
According to Nyie and Turay, the construction is going to last for six months. They informed our Correspondent that they anticipated of erecting the structure on the 5-acres of land, which would cost a million United States Dollars.
The health center upon completion would cater to residents of four clans in upper Garwula District Grand Cape Mount County. Residents who participated in the groundbreaking ceremony expressed gratitude to the Makpoma Decedent Development Association for the initiative and they assured the Organization of their full participation.
In another development, the Grand Cape Mount County Legislative Caucus has secured the release of 23 people who were accused of rioting, failure to disperse, theft of properties, arson and criminal attempt to murder.
The charges were the result of the protest which occurred on Wednesday and Thursday, February 28-29, 2024, in both Gogoima and Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County. At least five protesters were shot and killed by the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and PSU of the Liberia National Police.
They were released to the Cape Mount Caucus on Saturday, March 2, 2924. The suspects consist of two females and 21 males.
The death toll of the February 28-29, 2024, protest incident has swollen to five with few others still being treated at hospitals and health centers in the county.
