A young man identified as Thomas Dehmie was involved in a tragic incident in Kakata City after reportedly attempting to evade officers of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA).

Dehmie nearly drown when he plunged into a pond on Thursday, November 27, 2025. Police received tip off that he was carrying weeds/marijuana, an illegal substance in Liberia.

The pond where Thomas Dehmie was rescued.

According to community members, the LDEA officers were conducting an evening patrol at about 7:00 PM near the Miss-Moore Community along the Bong Mines Road when Dehmie allegedly panicked upon seeing the officers and jumped into a nearby body of water in an effort to escape.

Bystanders and community dwellers rushed to the scene and managed to pull him out of the water.

Meanwhile, during the rescue, eyewitnesses say a black plastic bag containing 32 pieces of parceled marijuana were discovered in his pocket.

Authorities have yet to release additional details regarding his health condition or whether formal charges will be pursued.
