    —— To Three Drug-Related Charges

    By Mark Rogers

    September 17, 2026

A 40-year-old Nigerian national, John Chimeze Mba, has pleaded guilty to three drug-related charges before the Criminal Court of Grand Cape Mount County.

Mba is charged with unlicensed importation, illicit trafficking, and unlicensed possession of controlled substances.

According to court proceedings, Mba, a resident of Freetown, Sierra Leone, was intercepted by agents of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry on April 30, 2026, while entering Liberia from Sierra Leone.

The interception reportedly followed what authorities described as suspicious observations involving the defendant.

During the encounter, Mba reportedly requested to use a restroom. The facts presented before the court state that he subsequently expelled 66 tubes containing cocaine from his body.

The drugs were valued at approximately L$7,056,720, according to the amount stated in the indictment.

Mba was indicted during the May Term of Court, A.D. 2026, after the Grand Jury of Grand Cape Mount County returned a True Bill against him.

When the case was called for hearing on Thursday, September 17, Mba entered a guilty plea to all three counts.

The defendant, however, disputed the valuation of the drugs contained in the indictment. He reportedly told the court that the individual who allegedly sent him the drugs had provided a lower valuation.

Following the guilty plea, defense counsel filed a request for the defendant to enter into a plea-bargaining arrangement with the State.

The court is expected to consider the request as the case proceeds.
