Residents of Varkanway Town in Porkpa District, Grand Cape Mount County, are facing limited access to healthcare as the town’s clinic struggles with a shortage of essential medicines and trained health workers.
Varkanway Town Chief, Seh, is appealing to the Government of Liberia to urgently intervene by supplying the clinic with essential medical drugs and assigning qualified nurses and other clinical personnel to the facility.
According to Chief Seh, the clinic currently lacks basic medicines and adequate trained staff, making it difficult for residents to receive timely and proper medical care.
The facility was recently renovated by Fanta Kamara, Chief Executive Officer of Generation Liberia, following what local authorities described as years of neglect.
Kamara also provided medical supplies during the dedication of the renovated clinic. However, Chief Seh says the donated supplies have since been exhausted, leaving the facility once again without essential medicines.
Speaking to the Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent over the weekend, Chief Seh urged the government and relevant health authorities to act quickly to prevent residents from traveling long distances in search of basic medical services.
Beyond healthcare, Chief Seh also appealed for government assistance to construct a town hall in Varkanway, saying the community currently lacks a suitable public facility where residents can gather, deliberate on local issues, and plan development activities.
He said establishing a town hall would provide the community with a central space for meetings and discussions on issues affecting residents and the development of Varkanway.
