Bong County District #6 Representative Moimah Briggs Mensah says there should be accountability for monies allocated in the budget for developmental purposes in the counties.
She said as national leaders, the honor is on them to account for public funding entrusted to them. She made the statement Monday, January 5, 2024, when she appeared on a local radio talk show in Monrovia.
The Bong County Lawmaker explained that based on her quest for accountability, she will join efforts with other lawmakers of Bong County to vigorously push for accountability to forestall budgeting blunder on Gbondoi Clinic, in Bong County.
Representative Mensah spearheaded a legislative inquiry into the mysterious absence of the Gbondoi Clinic during the sitting of the 54th Legislature. She was concerned that how could the clinic be a dudgeted project for about six years with no physical presence.
Despite the allocation, the clinic remains elusive, prompting concerns about fiscal transparency and accountability.
Rep. Mensah has also assured the public of joining forces with senators of the county to address the issue.
“I will join forces with Sen. Johnny Kephe and Sen. Prince Moye to address the issue of accountability in the county,” Rep. Mensah asserted.
While welcoming the proposed audit by the Boakai’s Administration, she stressed the need for comprehensive examination, extending beyond the legislature.
She at the same time calls for a thorough review of the entire Legislature, for proper transparency and accountability.
As the 55th Legislature convenes, the spotlight intensifies on the unresolved discrepancies in the National Budget bordering on allocations for various projects in the counties. The discrepancies are themselves rallying call for lawmakers to join forces to fight graft in budgetary allocation and ensure accountability.
