It’s Now Up to The Senate to Reject or Concur

President Joseph Boakai is starting on a winning footing with the House of Representatives, as he has got his way with his first request to the august body to grant him the authority to spend US$41.3 Million in the Government of Liberia’s coffers.
The plenary of the House of Representatives debated and unanimously voted in favor of a request made by President Joseph Boakai to spend the US$41.3 Million to cover government operations for the month of February 2024.
Plenary took the decision on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 in a regular session, following a report from the joint committees on Ways, Means & Finance and Public Accounts.
The committees, in their reports, recommended that the President’s request be approved to avoid what they termed as Government shut down.
It can be recalled on February 15, 2024, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai wrote the Liberian parliament seeking the authorization to spend the amount of US$41,300,000.00.
It was against this backdrop that the joint committees were asked to look into the President’s request to advise the Plenary probably.
Following the submission of the report and deliberation by the Ways, Means and Finance Chair, Rep. Dixon Seboe, a motion to accept the report was made by Montserrado County District #13 Representative Edward Flomo.
Meanwhile the House has ordered its Secretariat to communicate the decision to members of the Liberian Senate for its concurrence.
