Once again, the historic Providence Island located within the Liberian capital, Monrovia, is set to come alive with an cultural extravaganza and musical show in commemoration of the inauguration of the 25th President-elect, Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Liberia’s President-elect, Boakai and Vice President-elect Jeremiah K. Koung are set to take their respective oaths office on January 22, 2024, in Monrovia. As part of activities designed to celebrate the occasion, several Liberian artists including culture dance and performance groups have been invited to showcase their talents on the Providence Island on Saturday, January, 19, 2024.
According to information from the Inaugural Committee, headed by longtime Liberian folk musician, Miatta Fahnbulleh, the Providence Island musical and cultural festivities will incorporate Liberian youths as part of the inaugural activities. The show begins during the afternoon hours until the fall of night.
The show is being coordinated by Liberia’s Culture Ambassador Julie Endee. The show is expected bring together some Liberian artists, as well as musicians that were involved with the Unity Party and Joseph Boakai campaign doing the 2023 elections.
Joseph N Boakai and the Unity Party won the 2023 presidential elections with just 20,567 votes margin over the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of President George Weah. The election itself has placed the entire nation on a high temper, divided along political lines with many thinking if the longtime folk musician Miatta Fahnbulleh’s committee will extend invitation to those musicians who supported the CDC’s campaign against the Unity Party.
The CDC’s campaign had in it most of Liberia’s top musicians most of whom are currently making major headways in the sub-region and beyond. However, the Unity Party inaugural committee musical and cultural extravaganza is expected to showcase Amb. Julie Endee and the Crusade for Peace Band and cultural dance troupe, the National Cultural Troupe of Liberia and lead Unity Party campaign musician Sundaygar Dearboy, among several other artists and cultural dance groups.
