    Speaker Koffa & IMF Rep. Discuss Liberia’s Economic Development

    The Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Aidar Abdychev, and delegates on Monday February 19, 2024 met with House Speaker Fonati Koffa at his Capitol Building office, and discussed underlining economic and financial development of the country.

    The meeting centered on strengthening the office of the Speaker and the IMF, and overseeing activities vital to the economic development of Liberia.

    The meeting also focused on establishing modalities to enhance cooperation between the 55th National Legislature and the IMF in providing effective oversight of financial matters, and the role the august body can play in supporting the activities of the IMF.

    Speaking during the meeting, Speaker Fonati Koffa expressed commitment to fostering a strong working relationship between the House and all international financial institutions in their quest to ensure financial probity, transparency and accountability.

    “The importance of transparency, accountability, and good governance among others are key to managing the country’s economic affairs,” Speaker Koffa said.

    For his part the IMF representative Aidar Abdychev underscored the need of collaborating with the legislative body, terming it as a pathway to successful implementation.

     In conclusion, the both parties committed themselves to continued dialogue and collaboration which, according to them. will strengthen the partnership between the Liberian Parliament and the International Monetary Fund.
