    Press Release

President George Weah has promised to implement the findings from the five-member Special Presidential Review Committee set-up to probe into allegations contained in the Global Witness. He said the report “…will be executed to the latter.”

“Anyone held accountable, such person will be dealt with according to the law,” Mr. Weah said stressed. An Executive Mansion said the President made the vow at the cabinet retreat currently ongoing in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The mandate of the Special Review Committee is to review all concessions, management and other agreements/contracts, currently in force in Liberia, executed by and between the Government of Liberia and concessionaires, managers, partners and investors.

The Committee will determine whether concession, management and other agreements/contracts currently in force in Liberia, executed by and between the Government of Liberia and concessionaires, managers, partners and investors meet the legal requirements of the laws of Liberia.

The mandate also include determining whether the parties, Government of Liberia and the concessionaires, managers, partners and investors are in good standing, and current in their performance under the terms of the concession, management and other agreements/contracts signed; and if not, to propose remedies and recommendations to address the default; and examine and review proposed concession, management and other agreements/contracts, as may, from time to time, be referred by the Office of the President and make appropriate recommendations.

President Weah also empowered the committee to investigate the recent allegations by Global Witness that monies were dished into private pockets as bonuses at the National Oil Company or NOCAL.

Meanwhile, the President has called on members of the Cabinet to be proactive and stressed the ardent need to work in the interest of the Liberian people, an Executive Mansion release has said.

The President made the call at the start of a Two-Day Cabinet Retreat on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

“We need to adopt expediency in our mode of work. We came here to work for the people, not for ourselves; I will not appreciate delays,” the Liberian leader emphasized.

President Weah said at the end of the two-day retreat; a decision would have been reached to serve as road map of his administration in order to work for the common good of the country within the next six month.

This is the first Cabinet Retreat of the Weah-led administration that aims to appraise the first few months in office and set a new focus that encompasses the Pro-poor Agenda.

Cabinet ministers, deputy and assistant ministers, lawmakers, superintendents, and heads of autonomous agencies, amongst others, attended the retreat. The retreat ends on today, Friday, May 18, 2018.
