Vice President and standard-bearer of the governing Unity Party, Joseph Nyumah Boakai continues to be greeted with protests and rowdy situations as he goes from one community to another to campaign in the presidential and representative elections. His visit to Kakata, Margibi was again marred by protest from aggrieved citizens of the city.

As if signs of bad omens for Mr. Boakai in the elections but under the protection of heavily guided Emergency Response Unit (EPU) of the Liberia National Police and the elite Executive Protection Service (EPS) in Kakata, Margibi County, on Friday, July 14, the Vice President said he had reportedly received endorsement from seven of the 15 political divisions of the country.

Invoking God into his campaign, Vice President Boakai said, “Anything to deny the will of the Liberian people, some will not leave it with God.” It is not clear what the Vice President meant, but observer say he is doing what others before him did by claiming that God has chosen them to be president of Liberia. Most presidential candidates have claimed that God sent them.

Boakai spoke delightfully of Liberians, saying, “Liberian people are filled with talents, commitment,” and are devoted to the process of seeing him take the helms of power in these elections. He added, “Anything that will disappoint the people, only God knows what will happens.”

“Our people, who are here today, are committed and talented people who want change in these elections. They transported themselves and have remained here for the whole day, if you disappoint them only God knows what will happen,” the 74-year old standard-bearer of the ruling Unity Party told the gathering in Kakata.

Earlier, some protestors had gathered to resist the endorsement program from being held, but with support of the Police Support Unit and Emergency Response Unit of the Liberia National Police, the protesters were dismissed before the start of the ceremony.

Also speaking at the program, Montserrado County Senator Geraldine Doe Sherif said that those that recently resisted the vice president in Clara Town, Monrovia, were lucky that she was not at the event. She promised the Unity Party that such ugly act will never be experienced by the UP on grounds that she will chase them into the sea.

“As head of the Montserrado County intellectual unit, we resist and chase anyone that oppose the vice president into the sea because we know that this ticket is one that will ensure roads connectivity, better education, health, and create that environment that everyone will had the opportunity to serve and be served,” the one-time Congress for Democratic Change national Chairperson said.

For his part, the running mate to Boakai, Speaker Emmanuel James Nuquay expressed his willingness and commitment ensuring the Unity Party is given the third term to serve the Liberian people.

Nuquay, who claimed that he had failed in the political life, intimated that the quest of capturing the Liberian presidency is a must but through democratic means.
