The Assistant Project Coordinator for cross-border electrification or the West African Power poll has outlined numerous challenges confronting the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) in getting Zwedru, the Capital City of Grand Gedeh County, fully lighted.
Mr. Abraham D. Kabah is one of those working on the project. He spoke to our Southeastern Correspondent Saturday, June 17, 2017 on the highway where he and others had gone to work between Tuzon and Zai Towns.
Mr. Kabah said the fast growing rain forest and vegetation is hampering their work. He disclosed that they lack of required logistics, manpower and funding and the situation continues to drag their job to a snail pace.
Kabah also used the time to apologize to all subscribers of the Liberia Electricity Cooperation for the break in the provision of power which has caused Zwedru City to be with the needed electricity for the last two weeks.
He said they are carrying out clearing of vegetation that is covering the bare power cables from Zwedru to Toe Town and assured the citizens that soon there will be full flow of the electricity. He predicts that current will be in Zwedru by the end of the weekend.
However, early last month, Superintendent Peter L. Solo set up an electricity committee, headed S. L. Eric Momo, Fiscal Superintendent of the County as chairman. Other members of the committee are Bill White, Monnianyoun Gwion, and Garley Marhn among others to closely monitor and raise funds to support electrification project and LEC in under-brushing the area to avert the possibility of tension wires falling on the ground on road stretch from Zwedru to Toe Twon in B’hai District.
Since then, they have being collecting money from vendors and other prominent citizens in Zwedru to help in the electrification program.
It can be recalled few days after their appointment, chairman Momo informed the locals on the community radio station that all problems associated with LEC in getting Zwedru fully electrified will be solved in a week, but the county capital still remains in total darkness as other cities in Liberia enjoy the West Africa Power Poll.
But residents and citizens of Grand Gedeh have expressed regret about the continued power off in the county capital.
The LEC boss in Grand Gedeh County explained that Toe Town is a Gray point of the power coming from Ivory Coast and said whenever there is a feedback from Liberia their Ivorian counterparts can automatically switch off Grand Gedeh County.
Mr. Abraham D. Kabah said with the job underway, citizens should hold their peace as Zwedru will get current on or before this weekend.
