The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (DEA) recently set ablaze a pile of marijuana worth $130,200LD. The move by the DEA came in observance and celebration of the Day Against Illegal Trafficking and Drugs Ause.

According to the DEA-Maryland County commander David C Togba, three-and-half blocks of high grade “marijuana sensea” of 6.9 kilogram valued $40,250 and nine cans of marijuana were seized.

During the same raid, the DEA seized 37. 3 grams, valued LD$6,300, LD$430 ‘parcel of marijuana and 12.5 grams, value LD$10,750, and two strips of Tramadol and other drugs. The DEA also seized nine stripes of cocaine, about 9 grams, value LD$6328, with 28 stripes of heroine of 28 grams, value LD$5600, and five tubes heroine of 50 grams, valued LD$50,000 were seized from Pleebo, Sokoken District, Harper District and other parts of the County.

The DEA County commander told Groove 106FM that working in Maryland County he’s seen it as a way of serving the Liberian people, adding, “I am proud of our people.”

Commander David C Togba explained that three phases of progress made during their operation saw the confiscation of the illegal contrabands but mentioned that lack of logistics remains a serious problem for DEA in Maryland County.

The Day Against Illegal Drugs Trafficking and Abuse is celebrated across the globe every year on June 26. The celebration brought together heads of the civil society organizations, and the Liberia marketing Association sub-branch in Harper. Senator H. Dan Morias was at the burning site.
