The Chairman of the former ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP), George Mulbah, has dismissed as “irresponsible” a recent comment by Unity Party (UP) Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh, who described all political parties in Liberia as a proverbial “helping verbs” to the UP and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
Rev. Tarpeh made the statement during a recent interview on State-owned Radio, sparking public criticisms from some Liberians who viewed the remark as downplaying the role of other parties in the country’s political process.
Responding recently, Mr. Mulbah stressed that the NPP is not and will never be a supporting actor to any political institution. “The NPP has led this country before and maintains a permanent home in the capital,” he declared.
He warned that such a statement could have political consequences for the Unity Party in future elections, noting that voters may use it against them.
In a separate appeal, the former NPP chair called on President Joseph Boakai to mandate cabinet ministers to establish farms, saying such an initiative would help boost food production and allow citizens to feel the impact of the government.
He at the same time praised the administration for its ongoing fight against illicit drugs, describing the effort as a national concern that requires the participation of all Liberians.
