Speaking in an interview with our reporter, the commander of the Women and Children Protection Section, Hawa Kromah, said the child’s mother is yet to be identified. She disclosed that the baby appeared to have a physical deformity and is currently receiving medical treatment while police continue their investigations.
Commander Kromah warned that abandoning a child because of disabilities or medical conditions is against the law and urged parents facing such challenges to seek help from relevant authorities.
She has meanwhile called on the public to assist investigators with information that could help identify and arrest the child’s mother.
The Ministry of Gender says it is working closely with the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Women, Children and Social Protection of Liberian police to determine the best course of action to address the child’s condition.

The Ministry says actions may include the possibility of facilitating a legal adoption process for the child.
