If the recent primaries of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) were anything to go by, then CDC’s Mulbah Morlu’s name will be engraved on the legislative ballot paper to be up for election. But zonal heads at District #10 say not so fast.
Morlu defeated Rep. Julius Berrian of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change’s (CDC) recent controversial primaries, but no sooner had the ink gone dry when partisans of the Party residing in District #10 indicated they still want Berrian as their representative, and not Morlu.
Over the weekend, following the CDC party peace jamboree speech delivered by the party’s political leader George Weah, District #10 zonal heads, youth leaders, women wing signed a resolution to pledge their support to Representative Berrian’s re-election in the forthcoming elections.
The resolution signed by 34 zonal heads rejected their party’s nominee Mulbah Morlu and reaffirmed their support to incumbent District Rep. Berrian.
“We the Officers and members of the District #10 Montserrado County, the Leadership of the Congress for Democratic Change do hereby pledge, commit and support Hon. Julius F. Berrian, Representative of District#10 second term representative bid,” the resolution said.
Giving reason for rejecting the party’s nominee, the resolution statement accused the election commission of denying them from voting as original delegates vetted by the primary committee.
According to the zonal heads, there were fraud and inconsistencies, which degenerated into conflict that prompted the primary to be held in the district.
The group said Rep. Berrian has done well during his leadership, saying, “Hon. Berrian’s advocacy has led to the legitimate and Statutory Borough status of the Peace Island in the Township of Congo Town.”
Representative Berrian recently resigned from the Coalition for Democratic Change when he lost to Morlu. Sources hinted Groove 106FM that headed to the ruling Unity Party.
