Some 28 members of the southeastern civil society organizations have participated in a two-day election observing training. The workshop was intended to arm the participants with requisite knowledge to observe the forthcoming election in October this year.
The training workshop was conducted by a consortium of recognized independent national civil society groups, called the “Liberia Elections Observation Network (LEON)”. Members of the conglomerate civil society organizations include the Federation of Liberian Youth, Liberia Crusaders for Peace, the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, and the National Union of Organization with Disability.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Groove 106FM, the Reporting Officer of LEON, Amos Williams said the training is the second in a series and is aimed at educating their observers on upcoming political campaigns or rallies that will kick off July 31st, especially in the respective electoral districts across the country.
Williams said the participants were also thought data collection and reporting.
He indicated that the Liberia Elections Observation Network is currently looking at the outcome of the voter exhibition exercises and to know the preliminary listing of the National Elections Commission.
According to him, phrase one of the project was conducted in Fish Town, River Gee County.
Mr. Williams said it is time for inclusive participation of all citizens of the Liberia in these election processes so as to choose the right leader for their districts, counties and country.
Williams also said that they are getting technical support from the Carter Center and financial support from the Swedish Embassy.
The training brought together participants from Sinoe, Maryland, Grand Kru, River Gee and host Grand Gedeh Counties and was held at the Zwedru youth center.
