The citizens of the Melekie Town may have forgotten anything but not the campaign promises made to them by Vice President Jeremiah Kougn. The ‘Melekies’ have sent a Flag Day Message to Vice President Koung reminding him of his promises to the citizens of the town.
Melekie Town is in District #3 Bong County. Led by their Town Chief, Mr. Aaron Flomo Kollie, the ‘Melekies’ are calling on Vice President Koung to fulfill his 2023 campaign promise to ensure the installation of their 100KVA transformer.
Melekie, strategically located between Cuttington University and Gbarnga City, has a population of more than 5,000 people. Despite its size and proximity to major institutions. The town has remained without electricity for several years.
Town Chief Kollie explained that the transformer, which was procured nearly three years ago by Senator Johnny Kpehe, has been left idle and has yet to be installed.
He stressed that access to electricity is a pressing need for the town, especially given its growing population and the security risks associated with prolonged darkness.
Residents recalled that during the 2023 general elections campaign, Vice President Koung assured them that the transformer would have been installed once the elections were over.
However, they lamented that his promise has not yet materialized. The citizens are therefore appealing to the Vice President to honor his commitment and help install the transformer, which they believe will not only improve security but also enhance education, business opportunities, and overall living conditions in Melekie Town.
