Residents of the Lango Town community in Kakata, Margibi County are urging the national government to enhance the capabilities of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to combat drug abuse in the community.

Two alleged drug peddlers arrested in Kakata, Margibi county

On Wednesday, February 1, 2024, residents of the Lango Town community were visibly angry as LDEA officers raided a house suspected of drugs and contraband substances in the neighborhood.

Local inhabitants stated that drug sales have been prevalent in the Lango Town community for over a decade, which has been a cause for concern.

During an interview with residents, it was revealed that the LDEA is not effectively addressing the drug issues in Margibi County.

According to some individuals, the chairwoman of the community, has been involved in selling drugs for over ten years, which they believe is negatively impacting the children in their area.

They also mentioned that President Joseph Boakai has placed significant emphasis on this matter, and therefore it is only wise that the government empowers its DEA officers to clamp down on drug dealers and peddlers.

Meanwhile, the residents say if the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency is unable to attack the drug problem, then the government should them to deal with the drug dealers and peddlers. Observers say this tone of the residents is a sign of frustration.

But the residents noted that if the government delegate the fight against drugs to them, it would take away the embarrassment to the government regarding drug trafficking.

However, the marketers utilized the platform to appeal to the National government for support in bolstering the DEA, aiming for a better society.

Moreover, the residents of the area urged President Joseph Boakai to stay true to his promise made during his initial State of the Nation address.
